An extensive 60-day voyage circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel left without her and went back after some time after the ship staff became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive hunt located her person the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left the island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"From the little information we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, unescorted. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, mum succumbed, by herself."

Organization Position

Through an announcement, the Head confirmed that the company was "working closely with officials to support their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 crew, according to company information. It was purpose-built to reach isolated locations of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry passengers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are rare, and cruise ships have systems to record which travelers are getting on or getting off, according to travel authorities.
